Welcome to ABOUT THE VALLEY

Wears Valley and surrounding towns are about family fun and good times. Each month, we will tell you about beautiful and exciting things to do and see on your next visit to the mountains.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are famous for family fun activities from candy shops to carnival rides. And a trip to Pigeon Forge is not complete without a trip to the Outlet malls.

Townsend also has lots of things for family fun—tubing on the river, bicycle trails, and celebrations of history. This town is known as the “quieter side of the Smokies” but you and your family can find lots of fun activities at the Bluegrass festivals, barbecue cook-offs, and the Old Timers’ Day Festival held twice a year.

When you stay in Wears Valley, you are just a short drive from Sevierville, Maryville, and Knoxville. These towns host sports events, musical attractions, and holiday celebrations with good food and fun that you will want to add to your vacation plans.

So, from candy apples to country music stars and roller coasters to river fun, ABOUT THE VALLEY is all about family and good times.

FALL has arrived in East Tennessee—

And the mountains are starting to show their fall foliage. The beautiful colors begin showing at elevations above 4,000 feet in early to mid October. The colors usually reach their peak at the mid and lower elevations between mid October and early November—so, you still have time to enjoy this beautiful picture of Nature!

The fall colors in the Smokies are the result of the wide diversity of trees—approximately 100 species. As summer ends, the green pigment in the leaves fades and orange and yellow colors take the stage. The red and purple colors are produced as sugar in the leaves break down in autumn sunlight.

And speaking of fall colors,
ORANGE is always a popular color in East Tennessee—

It’s the color for the University of Tennessee Volunteers football team based in Knoxville. This popular team still has three HOME games this season:

October 21 Alabama
November 4 LSU
November 25 Kentucky

Since Wears Valley is only about 45 minutes from the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville, you and your family can enjoy a mountain weekend AND include an exciting UT Vols football game!
