About the Valley

Welcome to the October 2007 issue. Fall is a great time to visit East Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, along with the towns adjacent to the park. The new season means that Smoky Mountain Winterfest is just around the corner.

18TH ANNUAL SMOKY MOUNTAIN WINTERFEST

You won't want to miss this favorite event of both area residents and visitors. The towns of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville become a winter wonderland with lights and fantastic displays and many special events. The event begins in November and runs through February 2008. Each town has its own kick-off event, all of which set the stage for the magnificent illumination of lights. Stay tuned for more Winterfest news in future issues of About the Valley.

CABIN NEWS

Laurel Glen cabin has an added feature. After adding a new widescreen LCD television last month, we increased the digital cable offerings by adding HBO.

PEANUT BUTTER PINWHEEL CANDY
INGREDIENTS:

1 medium potato

Dash of salt

1 tsp. vanilla (optional)

1 lb. box confectioner' sugar (more may be needed)

Peanut butter

Boil potato in its skin until done. Peel potato and mash until smooth, adding only salt and vanilla while mashing. Add confectioner's sugar until mixture is stiff enough to roll. On a surface sprinkled with confectioner's sugar, roll mixture until it's about 1/4 inch thick. You may have to divide the mixture in half to do this. Spread the surface with a thin layer of peanut butter. Roll up like a long jelly roll and chill for a few hours in refrigerator. Cut into slices.
